Is it worth the trouble to use vinyl ester resin over epoxy to protect from the sunlight.?

Years ago I built a "strip built kayak" and used a 2 part epoxy with the fiberglass cloth to give the wood a clear finish but I had to do a few coats of "Captains Spar Varnish" over that to give it the UV protection. It still looks great!
