Can i use a stone pickax to gather red stone ore?

i just found a redstone ore in mine craft and i dont want to mine it unless i know if i can use a stone pickax to mine it, i looked at http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redstone_(Ore) but it didnt say what type of tool to use
