How to know whether a compound has dipole dipole forces ?

You have to know the shape of the molecule, like bond angles. Water would be bent, CO2 would be linear, and CH4 would be tetrahedral. With CO2, you've got O on one side pulling and O on the other side pulling. Since the electronegativities of both C and O are different, there is a dipole. But since both pulls are equal, there is no net dipole dipole force. Same thing with SiCl4
